A new report from WalletHub ranked Utah as the ninth best state to retire, just ahead of Arizona in the top 10.
Which state is the best?: Florida topped the list, ranking ahead of Colorado, South Dakota, Iowa and Virginia within the top five.
Wyoming, New Hampshire and Idaho finished at the sixth, seventh and eighth spots, respectively, on the list.
How states are ranked: WalletHub based its rankings on 41 metrics that determined “retirement-friendliness.” The report looked into each state's affordability for retirees, how well each state monitors health for retired people and how well each state accounts for quality of life.
Utah specifics: Utah ranked 22nd in terms of affordability and 24th for quality of life. The Beehive State ranked 12th on the list for its health care, according to the report. Utah ranked 49th for the percentage of the population age 65 or older. The Beehive State also finished as the state with the fewest museums per capita.
Other reports: Utah is often mentioned in conversations about best states to retire. For example, a report from MoneySavingsPro.com placed Utah as the second best state for retirement, ranking only behind Idaho, according to the Deseret News.
A report from SmartAsset said multiple cities in Utah are good for retirement, including Park City and Price. Nephi, Salt Lake City and Bountiful rounded out the top five cities for retirees in Utah.
A Bankrate.com report in 2017 placed Utah as the 11th best state for retirement, ranking behind Idaho.
